The Threat Level Designation system was developed in coordination with the development of the Mark of Differentiation. It was designed to allow law enforcement officers to quickly assess the danger posed by a Different individual. The Threat Level Designation is not to be confused with ability level or perceived economic value. It is specific to the potential harm an individual Different is capable of inflicting.

  • Alpha - Alpha is the least common designation. It signifies that the Different individual poses a unique threat. The individual's ability gives them the capacity to inflict harm on an extreme scale. The individual should be approached with the utmost caution and only a trained agent should attempt apprehension. Less than 2% of Differents receive this designation.

  • Beta - Beta signifies that the Different individual is a threat. The individual's ability gives them an increased capacity to inflict harm. The individual should be approached with caution. ~35% of Differents receive this Designation.

  • Gamma - Gamma is the most common designation. It signifies that the Different is of no greater threat than a normal human. The individual's ability does not have the potential to cause significant harm. ~50% of Differents receive this designation.

  • Zeta - Unlike the other designations, Zeta is not exclusively used to assess threat level. Although it does make it clear that the individual is not a threat, it also indicates that the individual's ability is a detriment to their health and well-being. It indicates that the individual will require care and treatment to manage their condition. ~15% of Differents receive this designation.
