Biography

Beatrice was born in Billings, Montana. Her father was a rancher and her mother was a homemaker who took care of Beatrice and her two brothers. The Baker family remained in Billings in the early 1980’s, even as The Plagues made life difficult. What finally compelled the family to move to a refugee camp near Denver, Colorado was not starvation, rather it was Beatrice's Differentiation.

At the age of 15, Beatrice began producing a grey, gel like substance which was excreted from her wrists. It would come to be called Styro. This substance was extremely adhesive. Styro would instantly bond to any surface except for Beatrice’s own skin. The only way to neutralize the adhesive was to apply extreme heat, which would cause the gel to harden.

Beatrice was unable to control her body’s production of Styro. I’s extremely adhesive nature made Styro extremely dangerous. If Beatrice was not careful, the Styro would fall to the ground, forming a giant glue trap. Even just a tiny drop was enough from a bond with human skin which would have to be surgically removed.

Concerned that it was only a matter of time before Beatrice seriously injured herself or others, the Baker family turned themselves into local authorities who assisted with transportation to a refugee camp outside of Denver in 1984. There, Beatrice was turned over to Section 26 in the hopes they could help her control her abilities.

Beatrice was never able to control her body’s production of the substance. However, when the results of Beatrice’s evaluation were shared with Ultracorps, the corporation worked with Beatrice to create B-Crete. Beatrice was hired by Ultracorps in 1985. She worked with groups of other Differents, providing her adhesive substance, which would then be mixed with water and crushed up old concrete and construction material which was then heated to form B-Crete. B-Crete was essential in the construction of emergency housing that was necessary when the Metro Areas were created and the United States population was moved to those eight locales.

When Ultracorps began producing Maceo Steel, Styro became much easier to handle. The nature of Maceo Steel made it immune to adhesives. This allowed for Styro to be transported over long distances, meaning Beatrice was no longer required to be near the construction location.

A facility was created for Beatrice in the Manna Fields. The facility's status as a transportation hub makes it the ideal location from which to distribute Styro around the nation.

Differentiation

Beatrice is a Substance Producer able to produce a sticky substance called Styro that is by far the most adhesive substance ever discovered. Just two grams of Styro provide enough adhesion to create thirty tons of B-Crete.

Beatrice's Differentiation is Metabolic. She requires about 100,000 calories a day to produce Styro at the industrial rate she currently does. She could survive on a normal human diet, but her production of Styro would be limited.
