Biography
Renita Martinez was born in San Juan Puerto Rico. Renita, or Nita as he she prefers to be called, was born into a large family that worked as fisherman. Nita and her siblings were essentially born and raised on a fishing boat.
Puerto Rico, while technically still a territory of the United States, is located within the Non-Assisted Area. The island was essentially left to its own devices in the wake of The Plagues. It was devastated by Cabot's bacteria, losing 85% of its population from 1980-1988. It has recovered well since that time, though, and now supports a vibrant fishing community.
Nita's Differentiation was apparent just a few short months after her birth. She was speaking at three months old. As Nita aged, her parents struggled to purchase enough reading materials to keep up with Nita's demands. At the age of three she read Moby Dick in eight hours and could recall much of the text of the book. By age four she was reading novels in an hour with perfect recall.
Nita's education soon led to a fascination with the mainland United States. At age six she decided that that only the Metro Areas had the resources she needed to further her education. Nita's family was convinced as well. With Nita's help, the family altered their fishing boat for long distance travel and headed for the Miami Metro Area.
Upon arrival, the family went through the immigration center where Nita alerted the authorities that she was a Different. Nita was remanded to the custody of Section 26. She was held there for approximately 3 months where she was evaluated and tested.
Following her release from Section 26 Nita was offered a position by Ultracorps, working as a Librarian, the Big Brain Differents who work with the Telepaths to operate think.Net. She began part-time, assisting only during peak hours. Within a year she became a full Librarian, the youngest ever given the position. She was responsible for the storage and recall of think.Net's Tele-Watching system.
At age 9, Nita was promoted to Head Librarian, taking over for Benjamin Jacobs. All think.Net information flows through her. She then delegates tasks to the other Librarians. Nita continues to occupy this position.
Differentiation
Nita is a Cognitively Enhanced Different more specifically a Big Brain. Nita is considered the most gifted Big Brain that has ever been born. Nita is able to store and recall any thought, feeling, or sense she experiences. She is able to process thoughts at speeds thousands of times faster than a normal person and many times faster than any other Different recorded. Nita's mind is still growing. It is believed by many that she may be able to replace all other Librarians once she is mature.
Nita is Metabolic, she requires approximately 60,000 calories a day to operate and function at her maximum level.
